    • What is the Language of Flower?

The Peonies mean “A Happy Marriage”

      Delphiniums mean “Flight of Fancy”

Nigella or love-in-the-mist mean “you puzzle me”

      Daisy mean “innocence”

      Olive branches mean “Peace”

For many, flowers are just something pretty to look at. But how many people knew that once they were used as a form of communication? In fact, in Victorian England, each flower was associated with a specific emotion, and they were then used as a tool to send messages to loved ones, sometimes even to enemies. When you send a bouquet, to make the gift even more personalized and special, what better way than to ensure you send the type of flowers that portray how you feel. Of course, we all know about red roses meaning love, but do you know what yellow roses mean? Or agapanthus? Not only are flowers a form of language; they are also assigned to birth months, astrological signs, and certain anniversaries. And how many women out there know how to choose flowers for a man? Yes, believe it or not, some men do like to receive flowers! But they have different tastes to women, so it’s useful to know exactly what to send. For those who stress about choosing the right flowers or think that they know nothing at all about what to pick, this possibly needs to send that perfect emotive message.

      Anniversaries, Birth flowers and Astrology

This study of the emotional meanings of flowers was given the name floriography. Along with the meanings, flowers were also used as a form of etiquette. If red roses were given to a woman and she was flattered, she would pull out one of the roses and return it to the gentleman. However, if she wanted to reject him, she would give him one of the closed buds. Completely communicated without the need for speech.

It is not only the type of flower that conveys emotion, but it also depends largely on the color. To express what you really want to say with flowers, first you need to look at the meaning of the flowers to determine which ones would be the best. Then, take a closer look at the color to make sure you are sending the right message.

      Red

As expected, red is the color of love, passion, and desire, which is why red roses are the true symbol of Valentine’s Day, the day of love. But red and its meaning can be applied to any species of flower. For the ultimate expression of love and desire, you can’t go past long-stemmed red roses though.

      Pink

Pink is a soft, famine color, and the spectrum can range from the palest of blush pinks, through to the vibrant hot pinks. Regardless of the shade, pink flowers are a symbol of friendship, fun, and admiration. If you want to tell someone you enjoy having him or her in your life, then pink is the way to go. There's something special about a bouquet of pink flowers that warms the spirit.

      Yellow

Yellow is a color that has many different meanings, so it is important to use the right flowers if this is the color you want to choose. Yellow flowers often represent sunshine, brightness, and happiness. Inspiring a feeling of warmth, yellow will often mean there is a change coming, particularly in a romantic sense. Perhaps you want to slow things down a little. Yellow is a symbol of richness, happiness, new beginnings, pride, and nobility. However, the rules change if you apply the yellow color to a bouquet of roses. In this case, it is a way of telling a friend that you want something more than just friendship.

      Orange

Orange: When talking about orange, it encompasses many shades including coral, apricot, and autumn colors. This is a warm color that can instill feelings ranging from warmth, happiness, and enlightenment, through to desire, intrigue, and vivacity. Presenting someone with orange flowers sends a message that the person is desired or an incredibly special part of the giver’s life.

      Blue

The thought of blue often makes people think of cold, but flowers these shades have a completely different meaning. Blue is a symbol of peace, freedom, serenity, hope, devotion, stability, and integrity. A bouquet of blue flowers sends the message that the giver only has eyes for the receiver, and that they can truly be themselves with that person.

      Green

Not one of the more common colors in flowers, however, there are several species of flower and foliage in shades of greens, and the feeling produced is one of balance and positive energy. Green reminds us of nature, and can represent several feelings, such as happiness, YouTube, fortune, fertility, faith, eternal life and optimism.

      Purple

Purple, violet, or mauve shades are commonly found amongst many species of flowers. Purple is also often associated with royalty, or regality, as well as imagination and creativity. Other symbolisms associated with purple flowers include luxury, integrity, fantasy, enchantment, passion, and sophistication. This color sends a message of admiration of a person’s uniqueness. Also, purple is a way of declaring deep feelings.

      White

One of the most common colors found in nature, particularly in flowers, white flowers have several symbols associated with them, often depending on what flower is used as a representation. White is associated with innocence and purity, class, cleanliness, reverence. By sending white flowers, you are showing you feel the person is perfect, and the relationship has great promise.

      Black

There are not a lot of naturally occurring black flowers, but those that can be found are often stunning and quite dramatic looking. Once upon a time, black flowers were considered a bad omen, often a threat of death. But now, they have taken on a completely different meaning. Instead, they now indicate mystery and sophistication. If you want to tell someone you want to know more about them, black flowers are a great option

       Birth Flowers, Astrology and Anniversaries

Those who have some knowledge of birth symbols and astrology will already know that each month and star sign have their own sees of birthstones. But did you know they also have their own flowers? What better way to send a special message to someone on their birthday than a bouquet made up of their own birth month and astrology flowers? In the right shade of colors of course.

       Bouquet Style

Just to complicate things, when choosing your flowers, not only should you look at the colors and the meanings of the flowers, but also what style of bouquet would suit the individual person the flowers are for. When selecting flowers at a store, the florist will usually ask you about the person you are gifting them to so that they can help you choose a signature that would be ideal.

The main floral signatures are the Natural, Romantic, Expressive, Contemporary and Traditional.

      Natural

This is a good choice for people who are more casual and relate to the outdoors. Meadow flowers are popular for this style, as well as green plants and accents of wood. The natural personality is considered earthy.

      Romantic

The Romantic style usually includes soft colors, such as pastels in pinks and creams. Often these bouquets can be accented with pieces of ribbon or even lace.

      Expressive

The Expressive personality is attracted to things that are unconventional and are often fans of the arts. For this bouquet, exotic flowers are ideal, as are shape and texture combinations that are a little unusual.

      Contemporary

The Contemporary bouquet is suitable for those who follow current trends and keep up to date with fashions and styles.

      Traditional

As expected, this floral signature is designed with the family-oriented person in mind. These are often the most impressively lush arrangements with a large variety of flowers.
